German Orders and Medals - Kingdom of Prussia : Prussia: Black Eagle Order: Embroidered Breast Star to the Order from the end of the 18th century. Order of the Black Eagle - late 18th century embroidered breast star. Especially large example from the last quarter of the 18th century made in silver lantern and sequins. The particularly vivid and finely embroidered center medallion in gilded silver threads and silk embroidery. Reverse with completely preserved cover paper. As documented on numerous contemporary portraits of knights of the Order, breast stars of the Order in the 18th century were much larger than in later periods. Already at the beginning of the 19th century and during the Napoleonic Wars the dimensions became considerably smaller due to military fashion of that period. The piece of insignia offered hereis outstanding, not only by its beautiful embroidery quality but also by its, especially considering its age, quite excellent state of preservation. This version is of extraordinary rarity and only very few comparable examples are still knonwn to exist. Großes Exemplar aus dem letzten Drittel des 18. Jahrhunderts in Silberlahn und Pailletten. Das besonders plastische und fein gestickte Medaillon in vergoldeter Silber- und Seidenstickerei. Rückseitig vollständig erhaltenes Deckpapier. Wie ordenskundlich belegt und auf zahlreichen zeitgenössischen Porträts von Ordensrittern dokumentiert, sind die preußischen Ordenssterne im 18. Jahrhundert deutlich größer gestaltet als in späteren Epochen. Bereits zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts und in den Befreiungskriegen werden die Abmessungen entsprechend dem Zeitgeschmack deutlich kleiner. Das hier angebotene Exemplar besticht neben der wunderschönen Stickereiqualität auch durch seinen, vor allem auch in Anbetracht des Alters, ganz hervorragenden Erhaltungszustand.
