Credenza; Napoleon III period, France, 1860. Rosewood, lemongrass, walnut root, bronze and Sevres biscuit. Measurements: 108 x 181 x 45 cm. This Napoleon III style credenza stands on six ball feet. The piece of furniture stands out for its classical forms, which are adapted to a dynamic ornamental pattern, in which the play of volumes and materials provides a great expressiveness that breaks with the rigidity of the most purist classicism. The piece of furniture is structured in three sections, delimited by columns. In the centre there is a large mirror that ends in the form of a segmental arch, while the sides are conceived as a display cabinet. One of the most characteristic elements of the decoration is the presence of biscuit. These are located in the upper part of the body, with two small borders on the sides and a larger frieze in the central area. On them are various classical figures, representing gods and mythological characters, such as Artemis, Hermes, Aphrodite, etc. These figures are biscuit de Sevres, a factory originally founded in Vincennes in 1740, the Manufacture Nationale de Sevres was transferred to this location in 1756. One of the main European porcelain factories, the Manufacture was successively named after different political regimes: royal, imperial and national manufactory.
