Jewellery box. France, second half of the 19th century.
Gilt bronze and vellum plate painted in gouache with portrait of Marie Antoinette.

Nineteenth-century jewellery box made of bronze, chiselled on its flanks with interlaced designs and fretwork of gadroons. On the lid, a circular vellum plaque bears a portrait painted in gouache of a lady representing Queen Marie Antoinette. The vellum is framed by a lobed moulding. The jewellery box rests on lentil feet.
