Liquor set; Bohemia, ca. 1850.
Blown and carved glass.
Measurements: 30.5 cm diameter of the tray; 40.5 cm height of the decanter; 16.5 cm height of the glasses.
Set consisting of a circular tray, a decanter and six glasses, all made of enamelled and carved glass. The pieces are made of translucent blown red glass and then covered with an opaque white enamel. As is characteristic of Bohemian glass, the decoration is carved in a rough-cut manner, with the gallons combined with garlands of grape leaves, a motif often used in liqueur sets. When the decorations are carved, the white enamel is lifted, so that they are left in reserve; the motifs are in red on a white background, emphasised by the relief and also by the chromaticism.
