Elizabethan mirror. Spain, ca. 1850. Carved and gilded wood with gold leaf. Measurements: 121 x 80 cm. Elizabethan mirror with a rectangular wooden structure, decorated with rococo motifs in relief and completely gilded. The interior and exterior mouldings have classical relief decoration. There are acanthus leaves at the four corners, reinforced by naturalistic flowers, following an ornamental design that reveals a tendency towards the restraint that marks the foundations of the neoclassical language. Flowers and leaves are also placed on the shoulders, and above the upper arch there is a large openwork crest, determined by vegetalised S-shaped brackets and rockery crests, between which delicate naturalistic flowers are interspersed.
