Bronze lamp base, late 19th - early 20th century.
"Detresse.
Patinated calamine.
Electrified.
Measurements: 69 x 28 x 29 cm.
Ornamental sculpture conceived as a lamp base, made in patinated calamine, representing a shipwrecked person who raises a light, that of the lamp, in order to be rescued. It is a Herculean figure, with a Michelangeloesque heritage, which reveals the influence of 19th-century realist sculpture in its conception. The man is dressed in rags, standing on the deck of a boat sinking in the waves, still holding a piece of the broken rudder.
