GUILLEM BERGNES SOLER (Barcelona, 1888 - Tortosa, Tarragona, 1975). "Jardí Can Fournier", 1928. Oil on canvas. Signed in the lower right corner. Dated and titled on the back. Measurements: 81.5 x 65 cm; 97 x 80 cm (frame). Guillem Bergnes settled in Havana in 1904, and from there he moved to New York, where he studied painting with Robert Henri and Homer Boss at the Henri School of Art between 1909 and 1915. Around this time he began his career by holding exhibitions in various American cities, and in 1915 he returned to Catalonia, making his debut the following year at the Galerías Layetanas in Barcelona. He subsequently travelled to Madrid, London, Paris and Mallorca, coming into contact with important artists of the time. Throughout his career he took part in important group exhibitions, such as the Exposició Històrica d'Art Sitgetà of 1925, and also exhibited individually at the Dalmau, Syra, Argos, Busquets and Layetanas galleries, among others. He also took part in the National Fine Arts Exhibitions of 1942 and 1944, and also in the Madrid Biennial of 1951.
