JESÚS MONTES IRIBARREN (Irun, Gipuzkoa, 1940). "Still life and window". Oil on panel. Signed and dated in the lower right-hand corner. Measurements: 100 x 65 cm; 117 x 74 cm (frame). Basque painter with whose renovating language, of colourist expression and postcezannian synthesis of forms, he has given new life to the old genres of still life and landscape. Son of the prestigious painter Gaspar Montes Iturrioz, who taught him the secrets of art, extending his studies in Madrid and Paris. In 1959 he won First Prize in the Christmas Competition held in San Sebastian and Second Prize in the 1962 National Painting Competition. He spent a period of his life studying in Brussels. He has had numerous exhibitions, including those held in Oslo (Norway), Irún, San Sebastián, Bilbao, Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza, Iruña, Hondarribia, Marbella, etc. He also exhibited in Paris in 1957. His works are exhibited in museums such as San Telmo in Donostia, and the Museum of Modern Art in Bilbao. Some of his most outstanding works are: El gallo negro, Palometa, Ziga, Caballos, Donamaria, Iglesia de Zubieta, Erasun, Pastando, La Noche y los caballos, Retrato de M. Sánchez Marco, Ventana, Agustín Boyer, etc.
