French painter born in Vienna, he arrived in France in 1929 and settled permanently in Nice in 1934 after an adventurous life in Vienna and Paris. The name of Sylvain Vigny remains attached to that of Jean Moulin in that, when the latter opened the Romanin Art Gallery in Nice, the artist was, along with the brothers Pierre and Jacques Prévert, Nikos Papatakis, Django Reinhardt and the Nice painter Jean Cassarini, among those who regularly met there. It is from 1955 that he becomes a really recognized figure of the art of Nice, as his friends Ben (Benjamin Vautier), Claude Morini and Bernard Damiano.
