Note:
Pieter Cornelis Dommersen was a painter who specialised in seascapes, coastal landscapes, and cityscapes, of which the latter can be seen in this present lot. In 1850, Dommersen was recorded as working in Amsterdam, where he remained until about 1861. In this painting he depicted the Waag, a mediaeval city gate on Nieuwmarkt square in the old city centre of Amsterdam.
