Bowl North China Song dynasty The color of the glaze shimmers wet and is scratched with thin, flat cuts. This method is referred to as "ice crack", but the more common term is "gold and iron wire". The dark coloring at the bottom of the object is due to the high iron content of the raw material, which becomes visible when the embryo (unfired porcelain body) is burned out. The dark stripe at the top, outer edge of the object appears purple, hence the name "Purple Mouth" and appears to be typical of Song dynasty pieces. Both color phenomena bear the dual designation "Purple Mouth Iron Foot". A designation that enables a quick chronological and geographical classification. The object is made with turtle pattern. Air inclusions such as small beads are found in the glaze, which can be used to identify Ge kiln porcelain. The Ge kilns were among the five great porcelain kilns of the Song dynasty. Extremely rare collector's item of museum-like quality! height: approx. 5.3 cm, Ø approx. 15.8 cm provenance: famous collection Malaysia
