Pair of sculptures; Germany, second half of the 19th century. Biscuit porcelain. It presents marks of the manufacture of Richard Klemm. Measurements: 33.5 x 20.5 x 16 cm. Sculptural group formed by two independent sculptures, whose themes coincide. In both cases the sculptor has portrayed a young lady who is accompanied by a sweetheart. The artist has reflected with success and realism, not without a certain idealisation, reflected in the delicate and graceful limbs typical of both the infants and the young women. He has endowed his figures with a gentle yet dynamic expression. Due to the markings, the set belongs to the Dresden-based manufacture of Richard Klemm. Dresden was home to more than 200 workshops dedicated to this type of production. However, the 'Dresden' style and quality has always been associated with objects bearing the blue crown mark. First registered by Richard Klemm, Donath & Co, Oswald Lorenz and Adolph Hamann. The biscuit technique used on this piece, which gives a matt, very white finish to the pieces, began to be used in the mid-18th century, particularly in France at the Sèvres factory and in Italy at the Royal Factory of Capodimonte. This technique was used to make statuettes, pastoral or gallant scenes and, in the 19th century, dolls.
