ROLANDO MOTRO MARCHETTI (Cuba, 1888-1944).
"Bust of the Virgin.
Bronze.
Signed on the back of the back shoulder.
It has a rotating base.
Measurements: 26 x 24 x 13 cm.
Bronze bust representing the face of a woman, with stylised features. The headdress as a nimbus, and the mantle that covers part of her head and shoulders make us think of a contemporary representation of the Virgin Mary.
Rolando Motroni Marchetti was born in Havana, Cuba in 1888. He became a sculptor using mainly bronze as the material of choice for his sculptures. Some of his sculptures are still found in Cuba today, including a sculpture in a fountain in front of the Hotel Internacional, as well as a monument for the tomb of the Unknown Soldiers in Santiago de Cuba (a province of Havana).
