Louis XV large poster clock with 18th century case. Gilt bronze. Napoleon III movement. Measurements: 105 x 57 x 22 cm. Wall clock in Louis XV style, made entirely in gilt bronze, with two sculptural groups worked practically in a free-standing manner: in one of them, (the one resting on the split pediment of the dial) Eros is preparing to cover the naked body of Aphrodite with a cloth; in the other, in the lower part of the case, a putto is playing with some birds. The remarkable quality of the bronze, the malleable appearance given to the material, can be appreciated. Note the plasticity of the textures, draperies and qualities of the cloth on which the Venus is draped. Between the two groups is a rich decorative programme of fleshy sinuous stems, scrolls and acanthus, rockery motifs and scallop motifs. A flamboyant configuration crowns the structure in the form of a crest. The dial is signed and bears Arabic and Roman numerals.
