CAMUS (Jean-Pierre). Means of reuniting the Protestants with the Roman Church. Published by M. Camus, bishop of Belley, under the title of L'Avoisinement des Protestans vers l'Eglise romaine. New edition, corrected & increased with remarks, to serve as a supplement, by M***. Paris, Louis Coignard & Guillaume Vandive, [1703].
In-12, [2] ff, XXXV pp, [5] pp of privilege, 310 pp, [13] ff (table, errata, Coignard's catalog), text entirely ruled. Fawn calf, spine decorated, framed with cold fillet on the boards, gilt on marbling (period binding). Two corners damaged otherwise a good copy.
Second edition (the date is erroneously given as M DCIII). This is one of the numerous anti-protestant polemical opuscules that Jean-Pierre Camus (1584-1652), who became bishop of Belley in 1609, multiplied as he had multiplied the small novels during the first part of his life. (Cioranescu, XVII, 17 669.)
