BING, Siegfried Le Japon artistique. Paris Japon artistique, Marpon et Flammarion [May 1888 [- April 1889]] In-4°. Blue half cloth with corners, illustrated paper boards, smooth spine. Twelve first issues abundantly illustrated with in-text and out-text (mostly in color and rare on double pp). Complete with the covers bound at the end of the volume. Prestigious magazine that launched Japonisme in France. Siegfried Bing (who changed his first name to Samuel) opened in 1884 a store of applied art (jewels, bronzes, furnishing fabrics, glasses...) in Paris after having become aware of the artistic revival movement in Brussels. He named it "Maison de l'Art Nouveau", thus giving a name to the emerging artistic movement. Passionate about Japan, he created the magazine "Le Japon artistique" which influenced many artists including the Nabis.
