The first issue comes out on December 1st 1953, with Marilyn Monroe on the cover. It is an immediate success. In a few weeks, the title sells more than 50.000 copies. Some great contemporary authors have published their short stories in Playboy: Arthur C. Clarke, Ian Fleming, Jean-Paul Sartre, Vladimir Nabokov or Margaret Atwood.
