Of Italian descent, Zucchi trained as a portrait painter with Mainz painter and writer Nikolaus Müller around 1830 and further trained as an engraver with Friedrich Fleischmann in Nuremberg, Germany.
He studied from December 1834 at the Munich Academy and undertook study trips to Italy, the Chiemsee Obermais, Ittensee, Tegernsee, the Dolomites (Rosengarten group) and Bolzano. He was initially active in Freising, Germany, and in 1848 moved to Kamen in North Rhine-Westphalia. There he created an altarpiece for the Pauluskirche Kamen.
