1768. BOOK: (ARCHITECTURE). CHAMBERS, WILLIAM: A TREATISE ON CIVIL ARCHITECTURE, IN WHICH THE PRINCIPLES OF THAT ART ARE LAID DOWN. London: Printed by J. Dixwell, 1768. Large folio. IV + II + 86 p. + 49 engraved plates. Enc. period vellum, lower tips very rubbed. William Chambers essentially follows Vignola, although he introduces his preferences and seems to complement him, for he not only gives the measurements of orders, arches and porticos but also regulates overlaps, arcades and elementary compositions. In addition to being a great architect, he was endowed with a great imagination that his works reflect very well.
