Frontis + dedication illustr. + X + 94 pp. + 39 illus. profus. illus. with nice vignettes in text and plate of elevations, sections, plans, plans, architectural details and excavations of the temples of Jupiter, Apollo and Phigaleia; 3 of the plates illuminated by hand, one folded and one laminated photogravure. Very occasional foxing. Enc. with leather and cloth spine, rubbed. Handwritten autograph dedication. First and only edition of the documentation of the archaeological campaigns carried out by Cockerell with his friend Haller von Hallerstein. Reputed architect of the British high society, he built many buildings, culminating his career as President of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1860. Passionate about classical culture, he traveled to Rome and Greece several times, carrying out archaeological documentation work. On one of these trips he discovered the frieze of the temple of Apollo in the ancient Greek city of Basas, now in the British Museum.
