Léonard FOUJITA (1886-1968). The Bigoudenes in Lesconil (Finistère) - 1950. Oil on canvas. Signed and dated lower left. 16 x 26,5 cm. Provenance :. Sale Drouot Estimations, Paris, June 17, 2011 (n° 210 of the catalog). Certificate of Sylvie Buisson dated March 11, 2022. Note: It was in 1917 that Foujita discovered Brittany. It was love at first sight for him and he returned there many times during the following decades. In 1950, on his return from Japan, he settled with his wife, Kimiyo, in Lesconil, during the two summer months. The tranquility of this place inspired him to paint pure landscapes, which he liked to paint with a skillful wash in order to obtain delicate shades of gray. "The Breton landscape suits his clear and contrasting palette and his calligraphy" Sylvie Buisson "I work every day, and everyone tells me that my paintings have become better and better, and perhaps this is one of the best periods of my life. I am happy" (Foujita).
