Checkered ebony handle, brass mount, one-pronged guard and two shuttle-like pommels, curved quillon, flat-backed curved blade, counter-edge and hollow sides, engraved on one side with a three-masted ship, Neptune and a radiating sun with the numeral "N" surmounted by a renown, on the other side with military attributes of a seascape, clouds and an engraved coat of arms "N: E:de F:" (Napoleon Emperor of the French) surmounted by a cherub.
