AUGUSTE MOREAU (FRENCH, 1834 – 1917), CUPID & COMPANION, a bronze sculpture on a circular marble base, incised signature to sculpture. Who was Auguste Moreau? He was a French sculptor born in Dijon. The third and youngest son of sculptor and painter Jean-Baptiste Moreau. He began creating sculptural works from a young age alongside his brothers Hippolyte & Marthurin. His style of work was realistic and graceful. He made his debut at the Salon in Paris in 1861, and continued to exhibit there regularly until 1913. His subjects were primarily young women, usually decorated with flowers and birds or allegorical and genre scenes incorporating cupids & young children. Dimensions of this piece: 43cm tall x 26cm wide. The base 20cm wide.
