Jean ROYERE (1902-1981). Coffee table - circa 1950. Marble, brass and gilded steel. H : 33,5 ; W : 140 ; D : 55 cm (some marks of use). To our knowledge, the only piece known to date. Provenance : - Apartment of the Prefect, Prefecture of Oran, Algeria (cf. illustration Archives Jean Royère, gallery J. Lacoste / gallery P. Seguin: preparatory gouache n° 11.293 of the apartment of Monsieur le Préfet, Préfecture d'Oran). - Private collection, France Note: During the 1950s, Jean Royère enjoyed a great international reputation and developed his activity in the Maghreb as well as in the Near and Middle East. In 1946, he opened an office in Cairo, Egypt and, the following year, an agency in Beirut, Lebanon, which allowed him to extend his influence to the farthest reaches of the Middle East: from Syria to Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Iran, where he opened a branch office in 1958. Private and public commissions followed one another: in Egypt, the French government entrusted him with the decoration of a lounge in the cultural center of Cairo and he was entrusted with the fitting out of the French General Consulate in Alexandria. He also designed a private apartment for King Farouk. Royère multiplied his projects on behalf of a prestigious clientele including King Seoud of Arabia, Prince Faisal, King Hussein of Jordan, President Chehab of Lebanon, the Shah of Iran and his daughter, Princess Shahnaz. This furniture comes from the prefecture of Oran; it attests to the simplicity and elegance of Jean Royère's style in the early 1960s. His taste for pure forms is reflected in the rigorous design of these pieces which excludes any superfluous detail. Bringing together the worlds of decoration and design, long considered antagonistic practices, Jean Royère aspires through his public commissions, to design homogeneous, comfortable and harmonious arrangements. Note: bulky furniture; storage fees may be charged in case of late removal (15 days storage offered; after this period, 50 € / month). Transport conditions : https://www.cannes-encheres.com/shipping/
