Oil on canvas,
sig. u. dat. 1913 u.r.,

Edward Theodore Compton made his first nature studies in the local lake regions as early as 1863. Later he attended various English art schools, then went to Darmstadt and settled in Munich in 1869. A trip to the Bernese Oberland proved decisive for his artistic development, as a result of which he became an enthusiastic painter of alpine landscapes. In addition to large-format oil paintings, there are also numerous excellent watercolors, to which Compton owes his reputation as an outstanding alpine painter to this day.
In the offered work, the following mountains can be recognized from left to right: Alphubel, Täschhorn, Dom, Lenzspitze, Nadelhorn, Stecknadelhorn, Hohberghorn and Dürrenhorn.
