SANDOZ, ÉDOUARD-MARCEL "Groupe de lévriers". Bronze, dark patinated, a. Plinth inscribed "Ed. M. Sandoz" as well as Giesser-Stpl. "Cire/C. Valsuani/Perdue", H: 28,5 cm, W: 35 cm, D: 21,2 cm Cf. literature: Félix Marcilhac, Édouard Marcel Sandoz. Sculpteur Figuriste et Animalier 1881-1971, Catalogue raisonné de l'oeuvre sculpté, Paris 1993, p. 336, no. 441 (corresponding version in plaster from 1912). After visiting the Paris World's Fair in 1900, Édouard-Marcel Sandoz decided to pursue an artistic career. He studied painting and sculpture at the École des Arts Industriels in Geneva and attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1903. Three years later he was represented for the first time at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts with a sculpture that was well received by critics. On a trip to Italy, he discovered colored marble, which was to serve him repeatedly as a material for his work. In addition to his artistic activities, Édouard-Marcel Sandoz was also active as an entrepreneur, for example as a long-standing member of the supervisory board of his father's industrial group Sandoz AG. The offered work, also known as "Flic et Floc", is part of a group of hunting dog depictions from the years 1911-1920. The Greyhounds, depicted in various poses, appear extremely delicate and delicate, which excellently expresses the special character of the four-legged friends. The model also exists in a life-size marble version, which was exhibited at the Exposition Société national des beaux-arts in Paris in 1912. http://www.dobiaschofsky.com/d106--10035.html
