This large oil on canvas is a slavish copy of Jacob Andries Beschey's exceptional painting of 1735, which went up for auction at Christie's in 2010. He was a painter along with his two brothers Carel and Balthasar, who painted landscapes and historical subjects, respectively, as well as portraits. Jaob became an expert in religious subjects, which he executed strongly influenced by Rubensian poetics. This subject is certainly the best known and qualitatively relevant in the artist's - not too rich - corpus. Oil on canvas, size 122x153 cm.
