In this painting of Tuscan scope, some of the tendencies absorbed by the painter from the Tuscan culture of the first half of the 17th century are clearly visible; Florentine drawing is always present and clearly visible in the construction of the figures, but the study of color is affected both by the innovations produced in the Nordic field but also those at the hands of Caravaggio in Rome. It is the figure of St. John the Baptist in particular that shows a certain leaning toward Merisi's lesson, although the painter is a long way from the dramatic rendering and painterly quality demonstrated by the master; the composition is in any case well calibrated and balanced, both chromatically and in the arrangement of the characters. Oil on canvas, cm est. 128.5x152, int. 107x130
