This view with ruins is the work of an anonymous painter in the circle of Caspar Adriaensz van Wittel, who resided in Rome in the last decades of the 17th century along with a large circle of Dutch painters. The rich gilded wood frame enhances the depth of the landscape that was most successful during the second half of the 17th century: the country view with ruins and wayfarers at rest.
