Ermilov, Vasilij D. Pathéphone. Argentine tango (material image relief). Curved copper profile, polished wood, veneer inlay, cat's eye (?), sealing wax fragments, on stained wood panel. Ca. 1922-1924. picture size: 30 x 45,5 cm. In original profile framing by the artist and nailed-on rough molding (46,6 x 61 cm). V. Ermilov (1894-1968) experienced a varied but unsteady artistic education even before the World War and the Revolution. Subsequently, he joined the Futurists, actively participated in numerous avant-garde projects (Kharkov Art-Technical Center, UkROSTA, ephemeral decorations, etc.). With the end of 1920s he increasingly devoted himself to the design of things (interiors and design objects). - We have a signed confirmation from R. Svirskij (Roman S. Svirskij, *1930, before his emigration head of a St. Petersburg fund) about the origin. According to this confirmation the relief (there no. 29) together with 7 other works of Ermilov came from the estate of Sergei Haliani via his son Vahtang S. Haliani into a private collection in Cologne. From 1999 it was then in the Nejgovzen collection (Hanover), from whom the consignor acquired it in exchange. It was included (each with illustration) in two monographs by Yuliya Glagoleva: "Vasilij Ermilov i ukrainskij avangard", Saint-Petersburg, Gal. Veb-Art, 2003; "Vasilij Ermilov. Tvorcheskaya biografiya". Saint-Petersburg, Iskusstvo Rossii, 1997. - The wooden panel with some moderate shrinkage cracks in the upper part. The framing a bit rubbed, everything a bit dusty. Minor local rubbing of mounted elements. Minor loss to veneer. Verso with unidentified label "Professional'nyj Mosk. Mos.." as well as screwed mounting and fixations of the picture elements. Unframed for description by us.
