BEAUTIFUL REPRESENTATION of the Bodhisattva Guanyin/Avalokiteshvara seated in vajraparyanka in the heart of a blossoming lotus supported by a pedestal. His raised right hand makes the gesture of argumentation or explanation of the Buddhist doctrine, vitarka mudra. A cavity intended to house a consecration is present in the back and an inscription engraved on the back of the pedestal is still partially visible under the pigments. Wood with remains of polychromy and gilding. China, Ming dynasty. H.74 cm. Provenance : French private collection.
