FANELLI Francesco. (1577-1657). (Circle). "Hercules and the boar of Erymanthe". Bronze with a beautiful brown shaded patina. Base in yellow marble of Siena. Italy XVIIth. H.bronze 23 H.total 32,5 L.14. Our statue represents the 4th of the twelve labors of Hercules. The boar of Erymanthe was a wild beast that terrified the villagers of Arcadia. Hercules chased it for days across the mountain, exhausted the boar by chasing it and finally caught it to be killed in the market place of Mycenae. A similar model exists in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum.
