This late sixteenth-century sculpture represents Poseidon with his foot on the head of a dolphin entirely chiseled and hammered, wrapped around his leg, standing on a square terrace. The statuette is erected on a two-tone marble base, probably contemporary. Provenance: Estate of Mr. Georges Bemberg (Otto Jorge Bemberg). Note: Collector and great art lover installed in New York, Paris and Buenos Aires, Georges Bemberg comes from a family of Argentine bankers and industrialists. He created a museum in Toulouse where most of his collections are exhibited (see www.foundation-bemberg.fr). Our statuette comes from his apartment in New-York (n° BEMB781). Certificate : Mr Philippe Cros, curator of the Bemberg Foundation has confirmed the authenticity of our piece and its attribution.
