English school XVIIth, after Antoon VAN DYCK. Virgin and Child with two angels. Oil on canvas. 116 x 99 cm. Our painting is an ode to the power of music, a beautiful early replica of a lost painting by van Dyck. The biographer Giovanni Pietro Bellori mentions the work in his Vite de ' Pittori (1672): The composition is beautiful with the Virgin, between two musician angels, giving support to the child, who stands on the globe of the world . A copy is in the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach, Florida. Another copy is on display at the Galleria dell'Accademia di San Luca in Rome. Frame in carved and gilded wood and paste of the XVIIth century (missing pictorial material, missing frame, old restorations, lining)
