Iran, probably Shiraz, circa 1370 Qur'anic leaflet pasted on paper, mounted in an album page. Ink, gouache and gold. Written in Arabic, in a very beautiful "muhaqqaq" in black ink for the text and gold for the title of the last sura "Al-Nas" calligraphed in reserve in clouds on a cartouche with a hatched background. Sheet : 24,5 x 16,6 cm Page: 37.5 x 26 cm This folio probably belongs to the 30th Juz of a Qur'an kept in the Khalili Collection (inv. no. Qur159), the last folio of which is missing. The calligraphy appears to be by the same hand, the dimensions are similar, and the illumination of the titles matches. It should be noted that on the last folio the last verse of Sura 113 is missing and replaced by v. 5 of Sura 114. This liberty taken with the Qur'anic text to ensure calligraphic cohesion could have justified the removal of this folio. This Qur'an, of which the Victoria and Albert museum holds the 20th Juz, was given by the Muzzaffarid Vizier Turanshah to the al-'Atiq mosque, around 1375. The last folio of a 30-part Qur'an endowed to the Jami' al-'Atiq, Iran, Shiraz, circa 1370 Ink, opaque pigments and gold on paper, mounted in album page on cardboard. 5 ll. of very large and strong black "Muhaqqaq", sura title in gold "muhaqqaq" in reserve in cloudbands. 2020, Art Market.
