[Fine Arts: 20th & 21st century part II] Jan Mankes (1889-1920). "Crow looking up at a small mosquito" Woodcut, 11.7 x 10.1 cm, printed in olive green on thin Japanese paper, signed in pencil and monogrammed in the block.
De Groot P51 ("Kraai, omhoog kijkend naar mugje"). Very rare in this colour. Mounted at corners on preliminary blank of Joost van Keppel (= W. de Merode). Claghen. Printed by Charles Nypels on the presses of Leiter-Nypels in Maastricht for Uitgeversmaatschappij Holland in Amsterdam, 1927, first ed., 42, (2) p., orig. giltlettered, blindst. cl., sq. sm. 8vo (a few sm. imperfections). UNIQUE COPY, with (apart from the woodcut) "Voor Dr. A. Mankes-Zernike" printed in red. Also with owner's entry "A.M.Z 1927" in pencil in upper corner of that same page. Finally, with an ex libris by Beint Mankes (1918-1990), son of Jan Mankes and Anne Mankes-Zernike (1887-1972)) on upper pastedown.
