VAN CLEVE, Hendrick (follower of) Coastal landscape with antique ruin. Late 16th c Drawing, brown ink, grey wash, 13,0 x 28,2 cm, laid paper, unsigned (few spots). Good condition. Mounted on passe-partout and framed (not studied outside frame). Landscape drawing of a harbour town with remnants of an antique temple. The composition is influenced by the Antwerp Hendrick van Cleve (ca. 1525-1591), who travelled to Italy. Attributed on the passe-partout to Adriaen Collaert (ca. 1560-1618), who engraved a series of similar landscapes with ruins after Van Cleve (cf. Hollstein IV.170.39-50).
