Czech Republic In the late twenties and thirties, the paintings „Holzknechte“ (1926/27), Frühling in Tirol (1928), „Einsame Hausung“ (around 1930), „Almen und Firn“ (1933) and „Bergweiler (Weiler in Tirol)“ (1935) showed the village and alpine ambience in impasto-painted concepts. The titles of these works are now directly associated with the term “Tyrol”. Soft hilltops and hollows stand in contrast to rocky, rugged mountain backdrops... Gert Ammann – from the literature cited below “If people could look without prejudice, and not always wish to wait until one persuaded them to accept what they would, in any case, sooner or later be compelled to acknowledge, they would have the pleasant satisfaction of already recognising Walde as one of the most significant Austrian painters.” Max Roden, Tiroler Künstler, Volkszeitung, Vienna, 25 July 1927
