JACQUES YVES BRUEL (Nantes, 1948-Toulouse, 2010). "Land of Africa". Sculpture in plastic material. Size: 53 x 39 x 16 cm (urn); 31 x 25 x 10 x 10 cm (mask). In 1986 Jacques Yves Bruel exhibited his first Pur-Purs, so called because they are pure ready-mades or found objects. They are plastic bottles simulating masks from Central Africa and Benin. Throughout his career as an artist, Bruel has shown his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions, both in France and Italy. In 2011, the Regional Exhibition of Contemporary Art (Vrac) presented several pieces (Purs-Purs, Moïses, Toucan...). In 2012, the École supérieure des beaux-arts de Nîm also dedicated a tribute exhibition to him. In 2013, the book "Bruel the Elder" was published by Ramon Tio Bellido, presenting the artist's entire oeuvre. In 2013-2014, one of his masks was presented in Paris at the Louvre Museum in the exhibition "Living romos" by Bob Wilson, bringing together part of the latter's personal collection. Bruel is currently represented at the Centre Pompidou, among other important institutions.
