PEP DURAN (Vilanova i la Geltrú, 1955). "Collage Bizarre", 1992. Mixed media: pattern drawings, tippex, collage. Signed, dated and titled on the back. Size: 64 x 91 cm; 66 x 93 cm (frame). Pep Duran has worked in parallel and from the beginning with scenography. This has allowed him to develop, over the years, projects and proposals centred on a particular way of understanding construction and representation, focused on resolving the staging. His works can be found in numerous private and public collections such as the Museo Nacional de Arte Contemporáneo Reina Sofía (MNACRS), the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona (MACBA) or Artium de Vitoria, Fons d'Art de la Generalitat de Catalunya, Colección de Arte Contemporáneo Fundación La Caixa, Colección Banc de Sabadell, among others. He has exhibited, both collectively and individually, in Spanish and European cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Donosti, Lisbon, London, Amsterdam, Cologne, Turin, Copenhagen, among others. He is represented by the RocioSantaCruz gallery (Barcelona). He has created numerous stage designs for theatre, participating in productions for the Teatre Lliure and the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya and the Teatro de La Zarzuela in Madrid. As artistic director, he has collaborated on several films, winning the Generalitat de Catalunya's Cinematography Award for Best Technician for the costumes for the film 'Luces y Sombras' by Jaime Camino in 1989. His project Sin Escenario, organised by SEACEX and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, toured in 2009-2010 to the MARTE Contemporary Art Museum in El Salvador, MADC in Costa Rica, MAC in Panama and the Spanish Cultural Centre in Mexico. One of his latest major exhibition projects was "A chain of events", curated by Chus Martínez at MACBA Capella, an installation of ceramic pieces with inlaid and enamelled reliefs, works produced in collaboration with MACBA. This piece is installed in the Central Library of the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
