Otto Mueller - Two girls sitting in dunes (1). Lithograph, hand colored, on thin, smooth copperplate printing paper. (Circa 1920). Approx. 36 x 46 cm (sheet size approx. 44,5 x 55 cm). One of a total of 20 copies, only single colored. Signed lower right. - Rare color variant with ocher, green and blue - In this beautiful execution hardly to be found on the auction market - Beautiful strong print Under the influence of the "Bridge" Mueller finds around 1910 to his preferred image theme, the female or male nude in nature, captured in groups or as a couple, sitting in the reeds or under trees and moving freely in a landscape. In doing so, Mueller avoids a realistic rendering of nature and bodies. Instead, he places his nudes in a nondescript, idyllic landscape of lush vegetation to depict an innocent connection between man and nature. Here, two female nudes sit together in a dense, verdant plant life. Mueller's swift, graphic style is shown here in its most beautiful form. Some of the known approximately 20 copies were colored and, according to Karsch, rubbed together with the printing ink, which was not yet completely dry. The color variant here is very rare.
