Two years before this, Claude Monet had an extremely successful exhibition which as a result elevated Monet’s reputation and the value of his paintings. Even though an attempt to capitalize on the high prices that Monet’s paintings were commanding by making use of Monet’s signature, this does not take away from the fact that this painting is a historical work of the "Monet school" and is judged as a work of particular mastery by an unknown artist with an extensive knowledge of Monet’s work.
