Pierre-Joseph BUCHOZ (1731-1809), botanist and naturalist, author of a monumental Histoire universelle des végétaux.
Autograph letter signed. 1 p. ½ in-4. Paris, 6 frimaire year 6 [26 November 1797].
Very rare letter in a difficult to read handwriting. About the steps he is taking for the pension he was granted. "It has been referred to you by the Provisional Council a matter concerning a pension which was granted to me and which has unfortunately been reduced []". [Heavily in debt, Buchoz was obliged to sell his collection of books on natural history, after having made a catalog of them. In 1793, he petitioned the Convention which granted him a pension of 1537 livres; but the forgetfulness of a formality made him suppress it; he had to present a second petition supported by Pessart, but he was only granted 1000 livres].
