Alexander von HUMBOLDT (1769-1859), naturalist and explorer.
Autograph letter signed [probably to the painter Marguerite Gérard (1761-1837)]. 1 p. in-8.
"I am infinitely sensitive, Madame, to the kind marks of your interest and to the delicacy of the gift you have kindly given me. The engraving is very beautiful and faithfully renders the picture that I owe to the magnificence of my illustrious friend, Gérard. I will have the honor to visit you [] ". [Baron François Gérard made several portraits of Humboldt, one of which, very famous, was engraved in 1832 by Charles Bazin].
A portrait of Humboldt engraved by Ambroise Tardieu is attached.
