A collection of 19th century horse hair jewellery, c1830, including an elaborate dyed red horsehair necklace formed from woven quatrefoils on woven oval-link chain, with two similar dyed red horsehair bracelets and various other elaborate items of horsehair jewellery Literature: Jewellery: The International Era. Bury., Shirley, P690 horse hair jewellery was 'particularly popular in moneyed circles during the first 30-40 years of the 19th Century when Wellington's celebrated charger Copenhagen was robbed of tail hairs for a bracelet. In 1823 or thereabouts the vogue was extended to small girls whose outfits were embellished with dyed (red) horsehair bracelets called dandies.'
