Cabinet in two bodies with a recessed upper body, in carved and inlaid walnut, opening to four doors and two drawers. Panels of the front decorated with flowering vases with symmetrical branches; uprights with fluted columns; frieze decorated with eagles supporting falls of fruits and leaves on either side of a panel with scrolls; architectural upper part having kept the molded ramps of the pediment; drawer fronts decorated with grimacing masks in high relief flanked by scrolls; sides with geometric decoration with inlays of stained wood Work of the south of the Ile de France, around 1580. Height 201 Width 111 Depth 51 cm. (some accidents and restorations including the locks changed, missing the central part of the pediment). Provenance : castle of a former mayor of Chartres during the Restoration. The decoration of this small piece of Renaissance furniture combines decorative elements specific to the Ile de France such as the architectural pediment, the eagles of the frieze and the inlays of stained wood plaque with other elements such as the flowery bouquets of the doors that are more common in the Loire Valley.
