Collection of 165 iron etchings, of which 55 by Daniel Hopfer, 72 by Hieronymus and 30 by Lambert Hopfer and 8 by the monogramist C. B., furthermore 2 woodcuts by D. Hopfer and 5 copies by other masters after the designs by H. Hopfer. Largely monogrammed in the plates, a few signed, mostly numbered and stamped in the margin (monogram FA II with coronet in oval border; Lugt 971), not dated. (ca. 1516-1700). Various. Formats, some from the "Opera Hopferiana". - All mounted or mounted on backing paper, some loose in 2 Hldr. bindings from the middle of the 19th century with Rsch. and Rvg. (Somewhat scuffed and bumped, joints slightly torn, one spine damaged). - Extensive collection of etchings of the Hopfer family, for the most part in the second states with the so-called Funck number of David Funck (1642-1705), a distant relative of the Hopfers, who acquired 230 plates from the heirs in the 17th century and reprinted them under the title "Opera Hopferiana". Due to the fact that the sheets are mounted and the paper cannot be examined in detail, some sheets may be prints by Silberberg from 1802 or other prints from the early 19th century. However, an even later origin can be excluded due to the composition of the collection under King Frederick August II of Saxony (1797-1854). - Provenance: bought by a descendant of the family at the May auction 1933 at C. G. Boerner in Leipzig, where some pieces from the collection of King Friedrich August II were offered. Unfortunately, part of the leaves of Daniel Hopfer was later detached as an inheritance; the existing leaves of Daniel Hopfer are (mounted on backing paper) loose in the binding. - Some with marginal or fine margins around the border, some trimmed to the border, some minimally rubbed, some stained and browned. - Please ask for a list of etchings.
