Model of a pontoon
Frigate armed with 48 cannons. The hull is lined with fine bone strips on a wooden core; the deck is battened and equipped: windlass, steering wheel, gratings, descent to the lower deck. Very finely carved stern and bottles. Figurehead representing a character with his arm stretched out towards the horizon. Two longboats are hoisted from the lower rigging.
The particularly precise rigging is made entirely of bone and wire.
Presented on its base in stained wood marquetry and encircled with a bone balustrade.

These models were made by French prisoners, sailors, carpenters, gabiers ... held on the "pontons"; ships disarmed in England and used as prisons during the wars of the First Empire. The bones, reliefs of the meals, were reused and finely worked to realize these admirable and moving testimonies, generally monetized near the guards to improve the ordinary)
