260 Saint Barbara in carved, polychromed and gilded wood, hollowed out back. Standing, holding a chalice in her right hand, she is wearing a diadem in the form of a headband that rests on a long head of hair with wavy strands falling down her back; she is dressed in a richly decorated dress and a cloak, one side of which returns to the front, forming very characteristic folds with a mixture of folds with sharp, broken angles and raised edges. Bavaria, workshop of Jörg Lederer (ca. 1470-1551), early 16th century H. 139.5 cm (polychromy resumption) On a red and gold lacquered base. Little is known about this sculptor who was born around 1472 in Fussen and died in Kaufbeuren in Bavaria. He is said to have apprenticed in Kaufbeuren with Konrad Köppel or Jakob Bentelin. His style is strongly influenced by the Ulm school, whose sculptures by Jörg Syrlin the Elder had a strong influence on him. Lederer married in Fussen and moved back to Kaufbeuren, where he took over a sculpture workshop between 1500 and 1507 with several master partners and journeymen. He delivered sculptures as far as South Tyrol and Savoy.
