Screen; France, second half of the 19th century. Oil on canvas mounted on wood. Provenance: private collection conceived since the 1970s between London and Madrid. Measurements: 188 x 71 x 2.3 cm; 188 x 215 x 2.3 cm (open). Ornamental folding screen made up of three articulated leaves with hidden hinges, with a hand-painted front. Each of the three leaves that make up the piece is decorated with a design that appears identical but differs slightly in detail. Each of the three canvases features an ornate vase adorned with flowers on an ornate panel decorated with gilt appliqués. The vase in the centre stands out from those on the sides due to its completely gilded finish, so that the central painting takes on greater prominence. Although it should be noted that although all the scenes depict birds, those on the sides are more exotic in their conception.
